Full course description
Brief Description of the session: Dr. Jael McCants will facilitate a virtual interactive webinar with live synchronous interaction on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), focusing on implicit bias in healthcare and the ways our identities matter in physical therapy. This interactive webinar will provide the learner with an entry point to engage in conversations about race, gender, sexuality, and other aspects of social identity. Through the sharing of stories and experiences, this training aims to create a safe space for physical therapists to learn to better communicate across our differences, as this work is imperative to our ability to effectively serve society.
This 2-hour webinar that permits live synchronous interaction will fulfill the Implicit Bias Training requirement established by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Bureau of Professional Licensing in Michigan. A Certificate of Completion will be emailed to each participant that completes this virtual Implicit Bias Training.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this Implicit Bias Training, attendees will be able to...
- Define implicit bias, social identity, health disparity, health equity, and other terminology related to DEI in healthcare
- Apply strategies for communicating across differences to their patient interactions
- Explain healthcare disparities and their role in addressing these disparities
- Explore other topics related to DEI in healthcare and have the tools to commit to lifelong learning towards cultural humility
