Full course description
Dr. Jael McCants will facilitate a virtual interactive webinar with live synchronous interaction on implicit bias and the role of bystanders in responding to microaggressions in health care settings. With growing evidence and awareness of implicit bias in health care and its negative effects on clinical interaction and treatment outcomes, there is an obvious need for continuing education and training on mitigating implicit bias for health professionals. This course will explore the impact of microaggressions in health care settings and provide the learner with opportunities to practice recognition and response in efforts to create safer more inclusive environments. This 2-hour webinar that permits live synchronous interaction will fulfill the Implicit Bias Training requirement established by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Bureau of Professional Licensing in Michigan. A Certificate of Completion will be emailed to each participant that completes this virtual Implicit Bias Training.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this session, attendees will be able to:
- Define the terms implicit bias, microaggression, and bystander
- Understand the prevalence and impact of implicit bias and microaggressions
- Explain the role of the bystander in responding to microaggressions

The Zoom session for this course will occur on October 20, 2022 at 1 PM. Participants will be required to complete a pre-course and post-course survey. All content will be available through the Canvas Catalog course shell.
