Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will gain knowledge of the SDOH and their impact on health
  • Participants will gain the skill to identify social determinants and root causes that perpetuate them
  • Participants will reflect on content and identify policies and practices that negatively impact the SDOH to move toward policy solutions.

Content and Format:

The curriculum for this course is presented in six steps called milestones. They are strategically ordered and the completion of a milestone prepares you for the next. This content will provide the necessary information to thoroughly identify and discuss the Social Determinants of Health. 

Pre-test: Must be completed before moving on to Module 1

Module 1: Intro and Overview of the SDOH

Module 2: Review of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation County Health Rankings

Module 3: Place and Health: Zip codes Matter Documentary (30-mins)

Module 4: Identify and Examine what other policies and practices have been used in the USA that impact the social determinants of health (ex. Redlining, Food Deserts). What policy and advocacy measures must be taken to address them?

Post-test: Must be completed to complete the course
