Full course description
- Identify and differentiate the various styles of performing arts, including dance, figure skating, cheer, gymnastics, music, and adjunct performing arts disciplines.
- Recognize common performing arts terminology used in describing movement patterns, equipment utilization, and environmental concerns to assist with the assessment and treatment of the performing arts patient.
- Interpret injury patterns common to specific performing arts disciplines based on body parts and the interplay of extrinsic and intrinsic variables.
- Explain circumstances that increase the risk of overuse vs. acute injury patterns based on the performing art and their respective disciplines.
- Describe how “seasons of injury” and periodization plans may or may not be applicable to performing artists’ schedules and occupational demands.
- Name five anatomical and physiological changes that can occur in the performing artist’s body as an adaptation from their practice that may increase injury risk.
- Compare and contrast techniques available from primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention including available injury risk screening tools.
